Here and There, Together
21.11.23 22.12.23
Jungsuh Sue Lim is a Seoul-based multidisciplinary artist/producer interested in generating a ‘cinematic moment’ in someone’s life through arts. She works in various genres, including experimental film, performance, visual arts, and curatorial projects. Art, for her, is primarily a path toward the attainment of a more positive attitude in life while examining the theme of loss and mortality, that she draws from her personal experiences.
As part of the agreement that ´ace holds with ARKO–Arts Council korea, Sue came to our studio to do a Production Residency and work on her project Here and There, Together, a multi-sensory installation performance that immerses the audiences into the artist’s re-interpreted ceremony for the beloved souls.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Through my art practice, I explore how individuals can make the most of their lives in the face of irreversible farewells and confront the emotions that accompany loss.
Combining elements of Korean, Mexican, and Northern Argentinian offering tradition, Here and There, Together suggests to consider the emotional attitude those who left behind can carry. During the presentation of my work to the public, I offered sculpted animal-shaped empanadas with flavors of ‘mixed feelings/fillings (sentimientos /rellenos mixtos) to the audience, who was also invited to take part in the performance by “drink blessing” (음복, 飮福, Eum-bok) together after the offering ceremony.

Echoes of Existence: Artistic Reflections on Humanity, Nature, and Identity
In the last ‘ aceNITE of 2023 we are honored to present the diverse and compelling works of four talented artists: ARKO/Korean residency fellows Jungsuh Sue Lim and Hana Yoo, Open Buenos Aires Prize & Residence scholarship Zerre (Venezuela) and artist in residence Greg Zurita (USA). Each artist brings a unique perspective and artistic approach, collectively engaging with themes ranging from loss and mortality to architectural abstraction, reflections on identity, and the evolving relationship between humanity and artificial intelligence.
Yoo’s work offers a powerful commentary on environmental activism, indigenous rights, and the enduring bond between humanity and nature. Through the narrative of Tanu, a mystical being navigating landscapes threatened by extractivism, YOO confronts urgent ecological concerns while honoring the resilience of indigenous communities and their fight for environmental justice.
Lim’s poignant exploration of loss and mortality resonates deeply, drawing from personal experiences to confront the complexities of farewells and the emotions that accompany them. Through her immersive installation performance “Here and There, Together,” Lim invites viewers to participate in a reinterpreted ceremony for beloved souls, encouraging collective reflection and connection.
Zerre’s thought-provoking series, “Metahumans,” challenges conventional notions of identity and reality in the digital age. Through graphic prints on unconventional supports and the use of photolithography techniques, Zerre blurs the boundaries between human and artificial intelligence, inviting viewers to question the nature of perception and existence in an increasingly technologically mediated world
Zurita’s minimalist yet evocative artworks offer a contemplative exploration of architectural form and texture. Using earth-toned palettes and a structural approach to geometric abstraction, Zurita invites viewers to engage with the subtle nuances of everyday life, encouraging personal interpretations and new perspectives on the world around us.
Together, these four artists offer a rich tapestry of perspectives, inviting viewers to contemplate the complexities of the human experience, the environment, and the intersections between art, technology, and identity.

Jungsuh Sue Lim examines the theme of loss and mortality, drawing from her personal experiences. Through her art practice, Sue explores how individuals can make the most of their lives in the face of irreversible farewells and confront the emotions that accompany loss.
As part of her residency project, Sue installed Here and There, Together, a multi-sensory installation performance that immerses the audiences into the artist’s re-interpreted ceremony for the beloved souls. Combining elements of Korean, Mexican, and Northern Argentinian offering tradition, Here and There, Together suggests to consider the emotional attitude those who left behind can carry. The artist invited the audience to take part in the performance, by “Eum-bok; drink blessing” (음복, 飮福) together after the offering ceremony. Sue introduced sculpted animal-shaped empanadas with flavors of ‘mixed feelings’ (sentimientos mixtos) in a game of words with ‘mixed fillings’.
The two meat flavours were 1) salty chorizo and fermented spicy Kimchi dumpling filling; 2) nutty savoury Korean beef bulgogi with sweet and sour criolla filling. The two vegetarian flavours were, 1) Spicy kimchi tofu dumpling filling; 2) mild tofu and sweet and sour criolla filling. And the sweet desserts and cakes of Argentina to remember the sweetness of our joyful moments together alive or dead. The edible printed drawing represented a body accompanied by Kkokdu; fellow travellers of the dead in Korean tradition. Sue encouraged the audience to embrace all the flavours of life with a napkin stamped with a drawing of the Jacaranda flower’s life cycle.
May your days be flavoured!
