Daniela Ehemann
Tango Resonanz Sound: the core of developing space

26.09.22 21.10.22

Daniela Ehemann is a German artist born in Erlangen, Germany, who studied Philosophy and completed an MFA in Fine Arts at the University of the Arts in Berlin in 2003, to which she added a teaching degree in Theatre. Since 2019 she has a constant lectureship at the department of Fine Arts at the University BTU Cottbus/Berlin in the area of art/architecture, her current fields of interest. Daniela’s work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally since 2002. Her work has been shown in Berlin, Munich, N.Y., Chicago and Istanbul. She collaborated with the artist group Raum: Selbst and organized a small art festival in Berlin.

During her time at ´ace, Daniela started working on an installation inspired in the Tango dance, its movements, and its rhythm. This blueprint will later be part of an exhibition that Daniela is going to install in the Netherlands during de second part of 2023. In her own words: “Argentina is traditionally known for its music and sounds of Tango. In many ways, tango gave Buenos Aires a recognizable global image. At the same time, it was commercialized into a main touristic attraction. Is there a way to retrieve the sound of tango from its layers of expectations and imaginations?”.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I am interested in finding out what happens in our brain when we listen to and feel music. I am interested in going back to the roots of the tango, but also to our own perception and to create something new pure and direct. For this, I use the sound perception as a central method against the sense of sight. The sense of sound seems to me to capture authentic emotions. I am interested in finding new working methods to create space to design and construct space as architectural space.

The Latin America's Paris

Buenos Aires is Argentine Republic's capital city. With 15,000,000 inhabitants, it is one of the largest cities in Latin America and one of the 10 most populous urban centers in the world. Its cosmopolitan and urban character vibrates to the rhythm of a great cultural offer that includes monuments, churches, museums, art galleries, opera, music and theaters; squares, parks and gardens with old groves; characteristic neighborhoods; large shopping centers and fairs. Here we also find a very good lodging facilities, with accommodation ranging from hostels to five-star hotels of the main international chains. Buenos Aires also show off about its variety of restaurants with all the cuisines of the world, as well as to have cafes and flower kiosks on every corner.

A neighborhood founded on the Jesuit farms in the 17th century

We are located in Colegiales neighborhood where the tree-lined streets, some of which still have their original cobblestones, invite you to walk. Although the apartment buildings advance, low houses still predominate. It is a district of the city where about 20 TV production companies, design studios, artist workshops and the Rock&Pop radio have been located. The neighborhood also has six squares, one of which pays homage to Mafalda, the Flea Market, shops, restaurants and cafes like its neighboring Barrios de Palermo and Belgrano, with which it limits.
