Jesús Román
Artistic DIrector in Residence

09.09.24 04.10.24

Jesús Román Carreño (Chile), came to ´ace for the second time in the period September-October 2024. On this occasion, Jesús was invited by Alicia Candiani to serve as Artistic Director in Residence. During her stay, Jesús accompanied the creative processes of ´ace’s residents, among whom were three artists who received scholarships from the Semillero 2024 program (in alliance with the Williams Foundation). Her work included feedback and critique of the work, accompanying the creative processes of the residents and being part of the artistic and cultural outings that the ´acePIRAR | Artists-in-Residence International Program organizes for its residents.

During the last fourteen years, Jesús has dedicated herself to her work in the field of visual arts addressing some topics that refer to the translation of language codes and visual codes, through minimal systems of representation that generally, and subtly, overflow by their materiality. As an artist and teacher, Jesús has worked as a professor at the Universidad de Chile, Universidad Andrés Bello and Universidad Silva Henríquez. She has obtained national FONDART grants and has had numerous group and solo exhibitions both in Chile and abroad. Among them, places such as GASCO Gallery, Santiago, Chile (2010); A Gentil Carioca Gallery, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2011); CCU Art Gallery, Santiago, Chile (2012); Franqueados, Madrid, Spain (2015); Emilio Vaisse Gallery, Santiago, Chile (2016) stand out.

The Latin America's Paris

Buenos Aires is Argentine Republic's capital city. With 15,000,000 inhabitants, it is one of the largest cities in Latin America and one of the 10 most populous urban centers in the world. Its cosmopolitan and urban character vibrates to the rhythm of a great cultural offer that includes monuments, churches, museums, art galleries, opera, music and theaters; squares, parks and gardens with old groves; characteristic neighborhoods; large shopping centers and fairs. Here we also find a very good lodging facilities, with accommodation ranging from hostels to five-star hotels of the main international chains. Buenos Aires also show off about its variety of restaurants with all the cuisines of the world, as well as to have cafes and flower kiosks on every corner.

A neighborhood founded on the Jesuit farms in the 17th century

We are located in Colegiales neighborhood where the tree-lined streets, some of which still have their original cobblestones, invite you to walk. Although the apartment buildings advance, low houses still predominate. It is a district of the city where about 20 TV production companies, design studios, artist workshops and the Rock&Pop radio have been located. The neighborhood also has six squares, one of which pays homage to Mafalda, the Flea Market, shops, restaurants and cafes like its neighboring Barrios de Palermo and Belgrano, with which it limits.
