Desirée de Stefano

02.12.20

De Stefano is a visual artist and researcher occupied by discursive and poetic practices linked to existence and dialogued bodies, territory, biodiversity and the desire for a contemporaneity eroded by emotionality, the political, artistic and technological context from a queer, disobedient and permeable Latin American platform thought in terms of sovereignty and conscience.

ABOUT (Untitled)

An instrument of solitude in pause, a human anatomy of limbo without sun. All orthopedics function as a contact device for assisted sensoriality. Prosthetic avatar who operates as an insensitive contraption. Approach the mortal figure as a sculptural body. The forms of being are modeled. Once-beauty, Ophelia’s silence.

In the traditional vision of passive contemplation of the present, the inexorable forms of everyday life were omitted. How does the present manifest itself in our experience of today? The present as the reduced place that amputates the expectations of the future and divests itself of the burdens of the past to be able to travel in the now. Reduction that shows a value: it is possible to exist detached from much.

The present is composed of quicksand, the ambivalent, the hesitation, the irresolute, they are the vibrant layers in need of prolonging the reflection. We need more time, a place to doubt, warn, available listening and registration. This is the contemporary: a long period of delay, infinite potential of becoming.

In the present as a reproduction of itself, time dissolves without the possibility of being accumulated, capitalized. In the impersonal repetition that has no beginning, end or result, the notion of no time opens up. Moebius of non-productivist programmatic actions, where the opposition between a living organism and a dead mechanism becomes irrelevant.

Tension between the highly artificiality of literal repetition in opposition to the natural and mutable emulates the very forms that conflict. Record of time in danger of extinction that seeks no results. Document of a repeating present. Virtuality involves the viewer in the measures of literature, as in literature, its participation is housed in the user’s imagination, relegating the body (in this case) to stillness. Permanent repetition of the act of looking. To display wasted time is to transform its scarcity into excess.

The Latin America's Paris

Buenos Aires is Argentine Republic's capital city. With 15,000,000 inhabitants, it is one of the largest cities in Latin America and one of the 10 most populous urban centers in the world. Its cosmopolitan and urban character vibrates to the rhythm of a great cultural offer that includes monuments, churches, museums, art galleries, opera, music and theaters; squares, parks and gardens with old groves; characteristic neighborhoods; large shopping centers and fairs. Here we also find a very good lodging facilities, with accommodation ranging from hostels to five-star hotels of the main international chains. Buenos Aires also show off about its variety of restaurants with all the cuisines of the world, as well as to have cafes and flower kiosks on every corner.

A neighborhood founded on the Jesuit farms in the 17th century

We are located in Colegiales neighborhood where the tree-lined streets, some of which still have their original cobblestones, invite you to walk. Although the apartment buildings advance, low houses still predominate. It is a district of the city where about 20 TV production companies, design studios, artist workshops and the Rock&Pop radio have been located. The neighborhood also has six squares, one of which pays homage to Mafalda, the Flea Market, shops, restaurants and cafes like its neighboring Barrios de Palermo and Belgrano, with which it limits.
