INTRUSION (by Alicia Candiani)
Intrusion, the installation that the artist Marcela Casals made in the central mezzanine-hall of ´ace, is a magnificent sculptural piece made with missionary packing paper. The artist built the piece as if she were composing a fugue in music. It begins with a “phrase” that develops throughout the space, in which it uses a polyphony structured by counterpoints.
The work, like its title, meddles in space, dialogues with it while invading it with a neo-baroque language of curves, diagonals and folds that are exalted with lights and shadows. The cheap, simple, disposable material turns into his hands in clay that at times is softly perceived as silk and in the next section it transforms into a constrictor snake that curls up into the beams to finally crawl across the floor, becoming a log or fly through the ceiling like a cloud.
